As the nation officially began President Barack Obama’s second term in office, the stars came out in full swing to provide plenty of wattage and support.
Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson both serenaded the POTUS and First Lady Michelle Obama, who stunned with newly shorn bangs in a Jason Wu gown. She completed the look with Jimmy Choo shoes and bling by Kimberly McDonald. Jennifer Hudson covered the Al Green classic ‘Let’s Stay Together’ and Alicia Keys changed the lyrics to her hit song ‘Girl on Fire’ to ‘Obama’s on Fire’.
In a ceremony also held in Washington, D.C., hip hop stars from the beginnings of the genre were honored for their contribution to the 2012 Olympics. The event, spearheaded by Russell Simmons honored such legends as Doug E. Fresh, and M.C. Lyte, who are considered the early pioneers of rap music. Also on hand were Yo Yo, Lil Mama and R&B singer John Legend.
