Alex Rodriguez isn’t all THAT bad.
For the third year in a row, the New York Yankees hit a home run helping the Starkey Hearing Foundation deliver the gift of hearing to more than 75 New Yorkers in need. The mission was held at Yankee Stadium where Yankees Third Baseman Alex Rodriguez, Manager Joe Girardi and Barbara Bush provided the gift of hearing to children and adults from throughout the New York area.
Starkey Hearing Foundation is dedicated to bringing understanding among individuals and communities by providing the gift of hearing. On this mission, which precedes the Foundation’s participation in the annual Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) meetings, they continued fulfilling their CGI commitment to provide 1 million hearing aids to people in need this decade.
During the New York hearing mission, the Foundation’s team of audiologists and staff fit each of the recipients, who ranged in age from two to 65, with their own custom-made, digital hearing device.
The Foundation’s team was assisted by celebrity and VIP volunteers and hearing ambassadors including Yankees Third Baseman Alex Rodriguez, Manager Joe Girardi and Barbara Bush. Each was paired up with at least one recipient to witness the life-changing impact of this cause. They also provided support and encouragement as recipients were fitted with their new hearing aids, received audio testing, counseling and instruction on how to care for their new devices, all courtesy of Starkey Hearing Foundation. Girardi and Rodriguez posed for photos and signed baseballs for the excited children.
“This is our third consecutive mission in New York and we could not be more thankful to the New York Yankees organization for welcoming us back and helping us improve the lives of children,” said Bill Austin, founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation. “Watching a child light up when they hear their loved ones’ voices for the first time is an incredible experience and sharing that moment is something you never forget.”
Gotta love it when celebs take time to do good. Go on, A-Rod!
