Here’s hoping it isn’t a big fat cheese fest.
Since the success of the musical American Idiot had on Broadway, it is only expected that the big wigs would not let it be just that. Instead they are going to milk the success for all its worth.
It is official. The Green Day inspired musical WILL be turned into a feature film.
If you haven’t seen the Broadway stage production of the show, the musical uses songs from Green Day’s highly popular American Idiot album that was released back in 2004.
The story of a coming-of-age of three small town guys will hit the big screen with Dustin Lance Black taking on the script while Michael Mayer is set to direct the cinema version.
And in case you were wondering, casting Billie Joe Armstrong as the role of the drug dealer St. Jimmy is in the works or so says Deadline.com.
If Mamma Mia can be turned into a hit movie, so can American Idiot, right?
Well no matter what happens with a movie, flop or not, Billie Joe is proud of his Broadway hit. He explained, “It moves people. I think it’s the same reason why you would want to go see a band play live, you know? It’s a record that’s coming to life, it’s in your face, and it’s a story. That’s what ‘American Idiot’ does. That’s what it does in the music, and that’s what it does onstage.”
Here’s hoping the cinema version won’t be too damn cheesy.
