Backstreet Boys Say Goodbye To TRL.

It’s the end of music videos as we know it. The end of the battling boy bands. The end of the screaming kids outside with the flashy signs. The end of the launch pad that boosted groups and artists to super-stardom. TRL is now dead.

But, last night was a special occasion for MTV networks as they celebrated the ten years of TRL’s existence, along with the many stars who did benefit from its hardcore following.

MY BOYS, the Backstreet Boys, were one of those groups who enjoyed top-charting success primarily from their music videos being launched on TRL and last night, they were on hand to bid farewell to Carson Daly’s baby.

Howie, Brian, Nick and my beloved AJ (sans Kevin) took to the TRL stage one last time to perform their HUGE hit “I Want It That Way”, their first single from their 1999 album Millennium, which went on to become number one in over 25 countries. According to wikipedia, it also reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts, where it stayed for 14 (YES, 14!) weeks. On the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream chart, it set a record for most weeks at #1.

It was a reminiscent performance that brought school girl tears to our eyes. The boys also thanked the fans and MTV for helping launch their careers to super-stardom. And we thank them for the wonderful memories and for outlasting all the other boy banders. Ahhh. We heart them.
