Remember when that cute little movie about penguins had people anxious to hear Morgan Freeman’s deep and distinct voice narrate the entire documentary? Ahhhh it seems like so long ago that the March of the Penguins was released. However it didn’t come out released without a bit of controversy. The summer of 2005 had some peeps upset that movie makers would create a film that would humanize these Antarctic creatures. I’m thinking the elephants of Africa were just a tad jealous.
No matter what people can say about anthropomorphizing (as critics referred to it as), what is no getting around is the fact that the March of the Penguins received an Academy Award for best documentary AND the footage is beautiful. Considering that filmmakers spent WEEKS in chilly arctic weather to create such a film is a true example of professionalism.
Learning about the birds and the way they live is far better than tuning into any Animal Planet special. After Fahrenheit 9/11, March of the Penguins is the second-highest grossing documentary of all time. Pretty remarkable if you ask me!
