Are Eight Grammy Nominations Really Necessary?

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

taylor

I know it’s not Lil’ Wayne’s fault, but to me it is a tad reee-dick that one sole artist gets more than FIVE Grammy nominations. I admit, Lil’ Wayne had a fantabulous year, but let me say that there were other artists that should have reaped a few noddy nods their way *cough Rihanna *cough Mariah cough* Taylor Swift* cough*. But, what do I know? I’m just a gossip guru.

Here are a few of the more interesting selections:

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance:

Chasing Pavements
Adele

Love Song
Sara Bareilles

Mercy
Duffy

Bleeding Love
Leona Lewis

I Kissed A Girl
Katy Perry

So What
Pink

Best Rap Solo Performance:

Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)…
Jay-Z

A Milli
Lil Wayne

Paris, Tokyo
Lupe Fiasco

N.i.*.*.e.r. (The Slave And The Master)
Nas

Sexual Eruption
Snoop Dogg

For those of you who missed the star-studded event last night, you can check out the entire list of Grammy nominations here. Oh, BTW, I blame Tom Cruise for this madness. No reason needed. I just want to. Okay, Thanks.

American Music Awards Performances 2008

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Last night, the American Music Awards was more about the performances than the pyramid-shaped trophies. They were hot, hot, hot!!! In case you missed the show, never fear….we’ve got the performances right here. Enjoy!

Xtina emulates Madonna performing a plethora of her oldies and her latest hits:
Beyonce gets chicken-fried on us…shaking and gyrating sans her 15 lb. wedding ring:
Kanye explores his inner-Pavarotti with his auto-tuned mic:

Mr. Nick Carey takes the stage with his obviously emotional, possibly preggers cash hound who performs her latest hit, “Stay In Love”. Did anyone else think MC was trying to hold back the tears in the beginning? Per usual, MC delivered:

The original boy band still makes hearts flutter. You can diss these boys old men all you want. They’re driving Lamborghinis and eating $20 steaks. You’re driving a Pontiac and eating ramen noodles.:

Miley Cyrus celebrates her 16th birthday by going nuts on stage:
Taylor Swift gets emotional during “White Horse” performance. See what you did, Joe Jonas!

Rihanna good songs, almost-put-me-to-sleep performance. Where’s J-Tizzle?
Nicole Scherzinger’s voice was lackin’, the dancin’, however was risque. Were the poles really necessary?
The Jo Bros rocked the stage and the teeny-bopper screams were present. I must add…Joe’s eyebrows were slick and pretty much perfection. That’s all.
Pink rocked the hiz-ouse sober. Plain and simple:

Kanye West Wants To Be King.

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

kanyewest1

Kanye West attended the American Music Awards looking chilled out to the maximum, prompting me to assume a couple Xanax may have been popped. Kanye did end up winning his first American Music Award for favorite rap/hip-hop album category for his CD “Graduation AND best hip/hop artist. So, Big Kudos to ‘Ye. And hey, he didn’t complain about winning either…too much. Instead, his first acceptance speech included the following magical words:

“I’d like to thank everybody who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music.”

“It’s our responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other, to keep competing with each other. It’s a really great competition,” he told the audience. “I see artists like Beyonce and Alicia Keys and Rihanna and Chris Brown and Chris Martin all in the same room and we’re going to push this music to the point where it was like in the 1960s and ’70s where you talk about Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. We will be the new Beatles. We will be the new Hendrix. They say in any other industry, you know, you’re supposed to do better than the past … but when you say, ‘I want to be Elvis,’ they say, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ Well, I wanna be Elvis.”

aliciakeys

The 2nd hottest event for musicians, the American Music Awards, are underway in the sunshine state of Cali. But, really who cares about the trophies, besides Kanye West…it’s all about the fashion AND the performances.

This year is a tad different as the fans…yes, the American public, choose the winners. It’s about freakin’ time. Now, who chooses the celebs’ ensembles is a whole ‘nother story. WTF is up with Alicia Keys and the dangling necklace spewing from the roots of her melon?

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

kelliepickler6

All you honky-tonkin’ fans who tuned into the biggest night in country music last night KNOW that it was a night full of not-so-many-surprises. Although, by pure observation, adding Kellie Pickler to the country music mix sure adds a trashy appeal that I never thought I would see in the genre in MY LIFETIME. Anypushupbraandplasticsurgery…

Kenny Chesney took home his third straight “Entertainer of the Year” trophy, while Carrie Underwood took the Best Female Artist award. George Carlin To Get Honored.

Monday, November 10th, 2008

georgecarlin

Funny man George Carlin is going to finally get the honor he deserves. The late comedian who was famous for those “Seven Words You Can Never Say on TV” - will be honored Monday night with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor…a prize Carlin felt was the ONLY comedic award worth receiving.

“He would have been humbly grateful,” Jerry Hamza, Carlin’s longtime manager and best friend told The AP. “Also George, who throughout his career was perceived as an outsider or maverick, had a real desire to connect with other comedians. He loved being in that club.”

Comedians Jon Stewart, Lily Tomlin and Joan Rivers are lined up to perform at the awards ceremony.

It’s too bad George couldn’t be there physically to receive this honor. RIP Georgie.

Josh Groban Has A Personality.

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

You may have noticed the lack of Emmy posts on my page. To be honest with you, I find the Emmy’s rather depressing and for a lack of better words…lame-o. Sitting in front of a television for 394948 hours watching boring skit after skit, acceptance-speech ramblings and praising some old dude (Don Rickles) who can barely function let alone walk isn’t exactly entertaining for an individual with borderline ADHD. Instead, I’d rather read who won and watch Emmy highlights the morning after.

The only note-worthy part of the whole awards event last night was Josh Groban’s television-theme-song medley performance. Not only was this performance entertaining, but it basically made me pee my pants of laughter. Good thing I was wearing a Depends pad.

Apparently this guy DOES have a personality. This is a must see!
