Backstreet Boys Say Goodbye To TRL.

Monday, November 17th, 2008

It’s the end of music videos as we know it. The end of the battling boy bands. The end of the screaming kids outside with the flashy signs. The end of the launch pad that boosted groups and artists to super-stardom. TRL is now dead.

But, last night was a special occasion for MTV networks as they celebrated the ten years of TRL’s existence, along with the many stars who did benefit from its hardcore following.

MY BOYS, the Backstreet Boys, were one of those groups who enjoyed top-charting success primarily from their music videos being launched on TRL and last night, they were on hand to bid farewell to Carson Daly’s baby.

Howie, Brian, Nick and my beloved AJ (sans Kevin) took to the TRL stage one last time to perform their HUGE hit “I Want It That Way”, their first single from their 1999 album Millennium, which went on to become number one in over 25 countries. According to wikipedia, it also reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts, where it stayed for 14 (YES, 14!) weeks. On the Billboard Top 40 Mainstream chart, it set a record for most weeks at #1.

It was a reminiscent performance that brought school girl tears to our eyes. The boys also thanked the fans and MTV for helping launch their careers to super-stardom. And we thank them for the wonderful memories and for outlasting all the other boy banders. Ahhh. We heart them.

Rumer Willis Is Copper-licious?

Rumer Willis hit up a Teen Vogue party last night to show off her new ‘do and her new body. I can’t help but feel sorry for this girl. I’m sure she’s a sweet girl and all, but damn, she got slapped with the ugly stick…times 20203489473. However, it is empowering to see that Rumer IS in fact making an effort by debuting a toned slender frame and a brighter hair color to significantly improve her appearance. Gotta give an “A” for effort!

I’m sure it is not easy walking in the shoes of Rumer Willis. I mean how humiliated would you feel to see your mother canoodling and kissy-facing with your tween crush?! Poor Rumer was the one who was having dreams of having Ashton sweep her off her feet and now her mother cougarlicious mother Demi has the boy on a chain. Good grief, to see AJ McLean (my teen crush) sucking face with my mother would just be wrong in so many ways!

Anyways…what do you think of Rumer’s new look? Do the red locks suit her?

Backstreet’s Back, Alright?!

I don’t care what anyone has to say…Backstreet’s back and better than ever. Sorry it’s been like THREE days since the concert and I hadn’t posted anything…but geez. I’ve been sinking it all in. My boys. *sigh* Older…wiser…funnier…and definitely more relaxed.

I was lucky enough to attend the Minnesota State Fair (where everything is on a stick) on Saturday to indulge in BSB heaven on a stick. Ok, not on a stick, but on stage AND within arm’s reach of my seat in the first row. Rewind back to when I was 15 and this would have been a moment of pure bliss…a marriage to the bad boy (AJ) would have been inevitable because he’d want to marry ME—–DUH!

The Boys did a mixture of tunes from their older, more popular days mixing it up with songs and dance from their latest album “Unbreakable”.

The set list went like this:

* Larger than Life
* Everyone
* Any Other Way
* You Can Let Go
* Unmistakable
* I Want It That Way
* She’s Like The Sun (Howie solo)
* Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely
* More Than That
* Helpless When She Smiles
* Trouble Is
* Incomplete
* Drive By Love (AJ solo)
* Nick’s drum solo
* Panic
* Everything But Mine
* I Got You / Blow Your Mind (Nick solo)
* Quit Playing Games With My Heart
* As Long As Love Me
* All I Have To Give
* I’ll Never Break Your Heart
* Inconsolable
* Welcome Home (Brian solo)
* The One
* Treat Me Right
* The Call
* Everybody

Encore: * Shape of My Heart

Each of the Boys had their own solo time and whether you want to believe me or not…they were fabulous. Howie laid on the cheese with his latino smoozing and bon bon shaking while Nick and AJ brought on the high energy performances and the hip gyrations. (My boy AJ will be releasing his solo debut (FINALLY) tentatively in October of this year. HOLLA!) And, Brian performed his positive hit “Welcome Home” from his earlier released and highly successful album “Welcome Home”.

My biggest fear was that this would be the end of a successful run for these boys I essentially grew up with. When Kevin left, I honestly felt it was just a matter of time before they each went their separate ways. However, they reassured their fans that they AREN’T going anywhere. And that…makes me fabulously happy.

Backstreet Boys NOT Making a Comeback.

Just recently it was announced that New Kids On The Block were coming back…trying to make a comeback. It seems more and more of those 90’s groups are coming back out of the woodwork…Spice Girls, Ace of Base…

The Backstreet Boys will NOT be making a comeback. Why not, you say? Because they never went anywhere, sillies! The Backstreet Boys are still here making those girls scream and rollin’ in the G’s. I swear it’s been YEARS for these boys.

AJ, Brian, Nick, and Howie are currently on tour overseas for their most recent album Unbreakable. I’ll admit it. I’m a fan. Yes, AJ was my husband-to-be back in the day, the boy-bander who was in my pubescent dreams…who I wanted to…umm…never mind.

Backstreet Boy AJ, On His Own–For Now

Backstreet Boy AJ McLean has decided to officially spread his wings and test out the “solo” waters. No, no, no, he’s not leaving the Backstreet Boys by any means.

By scheduling a couple shows here in the States and a European tour starting May 15th, AJ is giving his fans a taste of what he has to give as a solo artist. A little bit of rock…a little bit of soul.

You can expect a solo album from Mr. McLean near the end of 2008.
