Box Office: Weekend of January 2nd

For the second weekend in a row, Jennifer Aniston can celebrate in Margaritaville if she so chooses. The box office has been loving Jen like a fat kid loves cake, awarding her the top spot once again this weekend. Now, I’ve been hearing some mixed reviews of “Marley And Me” and quite frankly, I’d rather spend my $20 on the DVD release or a ticket/popcorn/diet coke and large bag of sour gummy worms for a different flick. But, that’s just me.

Just for S and G’s, do you think “Team Aniston” has been dishing out some extra dolla dolla bills to watch this movie a second time in the theater? Or did that semi-naked magazine cover really benefit Jen? Things that definitely make you go hmmmm…

The Top 10 movies for the weekend and their grosses are listed below, courtesy of Media By Numbers.

1. “Marley & Me,” $24.1 million.

2. “Bedtime Stories,” $20.3 million.

3. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” $18.4 million.

4. “Valkyrie,” $14 million.

5. “Yes Man,” $13.9 million.

6. “Seven Pounds,” $10 million.

7. “The Tale of Despereaux,” $7 million.

Katie’s Going To HAVE To Do More Broadway.

While Katie looks like this…

Tom looks like this.

But the king boy of Scientology shouldn’t have that big fat grin on his face. Perhaps he had a good hearty bowl of placenta soup before this “Valkyrie” promotion, but word on the street is….well to put it mildly, “Valkyrie” sucks.

Reviewers have been giving the film and its “star” the big fat SUCKAGE rating and it’s harshest critic was the Associated Press’s Christy Lemire…calling Cruise a placenta-stew-loving-couch-jumper who belongs locked up in a cage at the San Diego Zoo. (we kid) “Cruise is both the central figure in “Valkyrie” and it’s weakest link. He’s distractingly bad in this … With his hard, flat American accent, he stands out in every single scene. And he’s not a good enough actor to immerse himself in this kind of period piece,” she says. Ohhhhh snap.

MSNBC film critic Alonso Duralde said, “…There’s a gaping hole at the center of Valkyrie, and his name is Tom Cruise. He’s the only actor in the film not doing either a British or a German accent — more on that in a moment — and he spends every moment on screen glowering and purring angrily. The actor appears lost without being able to launch his usual charm offensive, and whatever dark sides that Oliver Stone was once able to plumb from this performer seems nonexistent.” Ouch.

Germans have criticized the actor’s performance as well, “Cruise as Stauffenberg is about as deep as a bowl of cornflakes,’ said the Bild am Sonntag newspaper. “The only thing that can definitely be said about this cinema adventure is that Tom Cruise, who has been damaged by his bizarre talk show behavior, may well continue storming the heights of the Scientology hierarchy as a thetan - but his image as an actor has been finally ruined by Valkyrie.”

So there you have it. Cruise as an angry cat, dumber than a bowl of corn flakes and the weakest link.

Anne Robinson could not have said it better, my friends…and you KNOW Anne don’t play!

What A Difference Ten Years Makes!

then

Ten years ago, we laughed, we cried and we swooned over the on-screen love affair between Kate and Leonardo when they starred in the box-office record-setting “Titanic”. We were also introduced to the chest-pounding fabulousness that Celine Dion debuted when she performed “My Heart Will Go On”. It was a memorable time for us all. (Although I must admit, that chest-pounding action still haunts me in my dreams at night.)

And even though it has been awhile, an onscreen reunion of Leonardo and Kate was inevitable. Their onscreen chemistry is magical. How can you forget that steamy car scene in “Titanic”? Ummm…yeah….HOT-NESS!

now

Last night the dazzling duo sported a cleaner, more glamorous presence on the red carpet at the “Revolutionary Road” premiere in Los Angeles. These two look HOT!!! The cholo look really didn’t do much for Kate back then. We’re glad she got her lipstick shade figured out!

Julia Roberts And Her Thong Take On Clive Owen.

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

Julia Ghoul-iah Roberts is back to grace the big screen with that infectious smile, teaming up once again with Clive Owen. This time Julia and Clive play two corporate spies with a romantic history who team up to pull off a con…think “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” meets “Ocean’s Eleven”. I’m having a hard time envisioning Julia as an ex-CIA agent, but from viewing the trailer the movie definitely looks like a must-see film.

As long as I have plenty of popcorn and a diet coke, I’m all for a new Roberts-Owen tag team! Woot, woot!
