Brooke Burke Charvet has landed the cover of Prevention magazine’s June 2012 issue. Brooke IS my mommy idol. After reading her book, I felt a close connection to her because our lives’ (albeit hers more famous) events are very similar. At any rate, I adore Brooke. She’s real. She’s gorgeous AND she’s on the cover of Prevention looking FAB! Check out the highlights from her interview with the mag below.
ON HER RUMORED TUMMY TUCK AND THE SECRET TO HER GREAT CORE:
Posture has a lot to do with it – keeping your core engaged, whether you’re sitting, driving, or working at your computer. I’ve always done ab work, even when I was pregnant.
ON IF SHE’S HAD A MAMMOGRAM YET AND HER EXPERIENCE WITH IT:
Yes. As soon as I found out my friend Guiliana Rancic was diagnosed with breast cancer, I booked my mammogram. I called her from the doctor’s office and said, “Thank you for provoking me to have this done. When I was finished, I said to the nurse, ‘What’s the big deal? There’s so much negative talk about the mammogram.’ The biggest thing was scheduling my day to get there. The actual appointment was a piece of cake.
ON HAVING MELASMA (FACIAL DISCOLORATION) DURING PREGNANCY:
…I’m like one in 1,000 cases where it didn’t go away after childbirth. I went to the best doctors. I did all the peels. I’m hoping hormonally, I’ll roll out of it. I use CellCeuticals SPF 55+ sunscreen, and I never lie out in the sun, which really stinks, because I’m a sun girl.
ON OTHER HEALTH CONCERNS SHE HAS:
I have Hashimoto’s, which means my thyroid doesn’t function. I take a synthetic
thyroid pill. I don’t even like to take an aspirin, but I have to take this every
day.
ON WHETHER SHE’S EVER THOUGHT OF HAVING BREAST IMPLANTS:
I have. When you’ve breast-fed four children, things kind of change. So that’s probably the most likely thing on the radar. I went through a phase where I wanted to have smaller breasts. Sometimes it’s easier in dresses and gowns.
ON OTHER PROCEDURES SHE’S HAD:
I’ve done little bits of Botox for a long time. If I wasn’t on TV, I probably wouldn’t. Fillers at a minimal level are okay, but it scares me because I don’t want to have that bloated look. In our industry, people do too much too soon or just too much. There’s nothing worse than that frozen “I’m 40 but I want to look 25” look.
ON TURNING 40 LAST YEAR:
Forty is better than 30. I have a better understanding of who I am, what makes me tick, what’s okay and not okay. I’ve had such a great experience professionally in the last 3 or 4 years that it really opened my eyes to not procrastinating.
ON WHO SHE WOULD LIKE TO SEE AS A CONTESTANT ON DWTS AND WHO HAS BEEN HER FAVORITE CONTESTANT OVERALL:
I always make a wishlist every year, because it’s so fun and the casting is such an incredible part of the success of our show. I’ve always said Oscar de la Hoya…I’ve always thought that Richard Simmons would just be whacky, and fun, and completely out there, I’d love to see Suzanne Somers, I think that Bryan Adams would be great, I’ve heard the Gene Simmons name tossed around, I think that would be crazy and I would just pray that he doesn’t lick me every time I’d be standing next to him!
You know it’s really difficult to not get emotionally attached to everyone because it’s such an intimate time that we share. And I go through that journey with them and you’re seeing their true colors and it’s just heart and soul out there. Everybody is so different, they really are. I have such a great relationship with all the pros and every season there’s couple people that stick out in my mind, but for the most part it’s been all over the board.
ON WHAT SHE’S FOUND TO BE HER BIGGEST CHALLENGE HOSTING THE SHOW:
Well actually my biggest challenge is also what I actually love about live television, the fact that you can’t rehearse it and you can’t plan it and it’s always spontaneous and I like these sort of awkward TV moments that you just sort of work with and make them fun, but I think it’s the emotions that run so deep in the skybox for me when people maybe don’t feel compelled to talk, or they don’t know what to say, or they’re disappointed, or they’re so excited and they’re adrenaline is crazy that they can’t even hear my question, so there’s a lot that goes on back there and it’s that short moment when I want to really share with America what they’re going through and it’s really much more intense than people would imagine.
ON WHAT PROMPTED HER AND HER HUSBAND TO WED AFTER THEIR 5 YEAR ENGAGEMENT:
I don’t know ha-ha. No, it was the right time, we had a beautiful dream vacation planned and we were with our children and our family who are the people who matter most to us. And it’s kind of that now or never summer, and we just did it. And it was right, I’m glad we waited, it was perfect.
ON WHAT ROLE SHE WOULD LIKE TO TACKLE NEXT:
Oh gosh, I don’t know if I can fit anymore titles to my repertoire! I never know what’s coming up, I’m just enjoying my life, being a mother come first, I love hosting, hopefully I’ll write another book, I’m really into the whole fitness DVD experience right now and being able to share my tips and my workout, and my philosophy with people around the world, I think it’s doable for anyone. If I can do it with 4 kids, I think anybody can do it. I don’t know what’s next for me.
