Ray J Hospitalized!

While the Billboard Music Awards appeared to be drama-free from the outside, but from the inside we could have seen a major showdown between Ray-J and Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law Pat Houston go down! Unfortunately after the pain of Whitney Houston’s Millennium award tribute and the evening’s events, Ray-J found himself in the hospital.

Here’s what TMZ reports:

Ray J was almost physically removed from the Billboard Music Awards last night after angry members of Whitney Houston’s family ordered their security to get him away from them … TMZ has learned.

Pat Houston’s blood was boiling because she, Bobbi Kristina and other family members were seated next to Ray J, the person Pat believes was a very bad influence on Whitney. Minutes before the tribute to Whitney, Pat asked her security to remove Ray J from his seat, but he refused to budge.

Our sources say … Pat’s security summoned hotel security, along with several uniformed officers to physically remove Ray J.

Just before push was about to come to shove, security warned Pat that things would likely get physical and it would almost certainly be caught on video, just as Whitney was about to be honored. Sources say Pat then grudgingly recanted and Ray J kept his seat.

Sounds like a whole lot of stupid. I get why they may feel a bit of animosity towards Ray, but really, it was their daughter, sister and friend who had the problem with controlling herself around drugs. There is no use is blaming Ray-J for Whit’s death, if that is what they are doing.

After the confrontation with Whit’s family the night before, Ray-J was found in his hotel room “out of it” and is supposedly being treated for exhaustion and stress.

I don’t know how he is handling all of this mess. I’d have to be on a whole lot of Xanax to deal with a death AND have the family of the loved one taking strikes at you. I just hope that Ray-J has a support system around him to keep him semi-sane.

Katy Perry Shot The Drama For Her Movie Too

Katy Perry is ALREADY promoting her movie Katy Perry: Part of Me, even though it doesn’t come out until July. Perry stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, May 22nd to chat about her upcoming film and why she thinks it is important to show all sides of her life and not just the positive. In other words, Katy is selling the drama of her divorce.

Ellen: Like you said, you shot the good, the bad. Who knows what’s going to happen in your life when you start shooting things? You got married during that time.

Katy: I did.

Ellen: And then that didn’t turn out to last and that part of it is still in there?

Katy: I thought it was important for me..First of all, I thought it was important to show everything in between. I think sometimes people think that we’re perfect and we know we’re not perfect, at all. I think it’s important start breaking down the idea that to achieve your dream you always have to be perfect or flawless or live in some kind of fantasy world. So that’s why I decided to put everything into the film. In the most tasteful way. But mostly it’s about how I go there and the ride along the way which can be bumpy but mostly it was extremely fun…

I do like Katy Perry but for some reason I see this movie being a poor seller at the box office. If she rakes in the dough with this one, I will pee my pants.

Tony Bennett Recording Latest CD Project in Greater Fort Lauderdale!

He may have left his hear tin San Fancisco, but Tony Bennett and Sony Music have chosen Greater Fort Lauderdale as the production setting for the iconic singer’s latest CD project- a project that will feature some of the top music artists from Latin America and Spain. The CD will be released later this year, and many of the tracks were recorded at Cutting Cane recording studio in Broward County, which is owned by Grammy Award-winning producer George Noriega.

A variety of music videos and visual marketing tools that will be used to globally promote the CD project will feature iconic destinations throughout Greater Fort Lauderdale.

“We couldn’t be happier to open our doors and arms for Mr. Bennett and his duet partners to use our beautiful setting as the backdrop for these music videos. Compelling imagery will showcase our vibrant, spirited community and continue to drive international visitor appeal, especially in the Latin American market,” said Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Argentine roots-rocker Vicentico, former lead vocalist of the renown band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Brazilian singer, songwriter, guitarist and Latin Grammy Award-nominated Maria Gadu, as well as Dani Martin, former lead vocalist of the award-winning Spanish pop rock band El Canto del Loco, joined Tony in the studio for the Latin duets project. In addition to recording their duets with Tony Bennett in Broward County, each of these three artists will shoot a “Bhind the Scenes” music video showcasing the sites of Fort Lauderdale. Sony Music and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau will work closely together to merchandise and promote these videos and fun in-market contests via TV, radio, and social media. The musical partnership will target Brazil, Argentina and Spain from where collaborating artists Vicentico, Maria Gadu, and Dani Martin hail.

Katy Perry Performs An Emotional “Wide Awake” For Billboard Music Awards Crowd

Katy Perry took to the Billboard Music Awards 2012 stage to perform her latest single “Wide Awake”. The pop star unveiled the song live (yeah, believe it or not) alongside aerialists doing acrobatics and making googly eyes.

Perry sat on a suspended sheet that was lowered from the rafters and I’m not gonna lie but it surely reminded me of Pink’s performance where she hangs from a sheet and does all some crazy poses all which ways all while singing live.

At any rate, Katy kept her body mostly vertical during this performance AND despite being pitchy in some spots, she DID sing live.

“Wide Awake” was written for Perry’s upcoming 3D film, “Katy Perry: Part of Me,” due out July 5.

Check out Katy’s performance from last night’s show below.

Pink and Carey Hart Slam Chris Brown’s Billboard Music Awards Performance

Last night, Chris Brown performed at the Billboard Music Awards his hit single “Turn Up The Music”, sans Rihanna (Come on, you KNOW you were hoping that Billboard would throw us a surprise, right?).

Let me just tell you, I enjoy WATCHING Chris Brown perform. Sure he has a great voice but I’m not gonna lie, I’m a fan of his dancing. For gawd’s sake, the guy is the MJ of our day when it comes to dancing.

There were a lot of people who were hating on Brown’s performance last night because of the lip-syncing but tell me peeps, first and foremost you aren’t really a fan of Brown simply for his singing are you? That’s what I thought.

There were a couple of celebrities who weren’t really feeling Brown’s BMX themed set. Pink and her husband Carey Hart tweeted during the show without saying any names of course.

Pink tweeted, “One day if i lipsync, i hope i do it as well as him…”

Hart then added, “Im pretty sure i saw my wife did that same performance, but she was 3 months pregnant and actually sang the song.” Ouch!

I’ve got mad respect for Pink. She is an amazing live performer and I’ve NEVER seen her lip-sync a track.
Check out Brown’s performance below.

Pete Doherty Makes Shaky Movie Debut At Cannes

I never really have thought that British rocker Pete Doherty could be an actor, but apparently he tried his hand at it on the big screen and he debuted at Cannes nonetheless. During the Cannes Film Festival, Doperty showed off his acting chops (or lack thereof) playing Octave in director Sylvie Verheyde’s version of the Alfred de Musset classic Confession of a Child of the Century, which was unveiled at the festival in France on Sunday.

Even though Doperty probably didn’t show off Oscar-worthy acting, he did get some positive reviews. Check them out below:

BBC: “It is difficult to recall a less charismatic lead performance in any other film. However, to suggest it is completely Doherty’s fault would do him a disservice.”

Screen Daily critic said Doherty’s role as Octave was “calamitous miscasting” as he “mumbled lines” and gave a “wooden performance” in which he had a “permanently bored expression” and “looks like he’d rather be somewhere else” for much of the movie.

Cine-Vue.com said, “Doherty, like a sixth former (student) who hasn’t learnt his lines for drama class, fidgets throughout Confession of a Child of the Century and seems constantly surprised when it is his cue.”

He did get a couple of positive shout outs from The Independent and Britain’s Evening Standard.

The Independent said that Doherty was “perfectly cast” and “projects an air of decadence and debauchery” saying that he was “playing a 19th century version of himself.” He adds that his performance was “understated, sardonic (but with) a vulnerability that stops him from seeming (too) obnoxious.”

Britain’s Evening Standard said, “He tries hard, and there are moments which work.”

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Doherty botched a role that he was born to play. Ouch. More on that here.

Check out a clip from the flick below, along with one of my favorite performances of Doherty with his late friend Amy Winehouse.

Bobbi Kristina Accepts Billboard Music Awards 2012 Millennium Award For Her Mother Whitney Houston

Last night Bobbi Kristina attended the Billboard Music Awards 2012 to accept the Millennium Award on behalf of her mother Whitney Houston. It was a rare public appearance for Bobbi Kris as she attended the BBMA’s in Vegas, but it was all for good reason. (Even her rumored boyfriend Nick Gordon was there to show his support and to plant a kiss on Bobbi Kris’ cheek as he brought her up to the stage.)

In an emotional tribute to Whitney, Whoopi Goldberg began the tribute saying, “What all performers want and need and should get is love and many of us here loved Whitney, and even if you’re one of those who didn’t show the love to Whitney, now is your chance, because tonight, that’s what we’re doing: We’re going to be giving Whitney the greatest love of all.”

After John Legend and Houston’s co-star in Sparkle Jordin Sparks performed some of Whit’s hits, Whit’s sister-in-law Pat Houston and Bobbi Kris took to the stage to accept the award for Whitney.

According to Radaronline.com, Pat said, “This is truly an honor. We thank you, Billboard; we thank you, Whoopi, Jordin; we love you, John. But tonight, the one person that should be accepting this award is the one person that Whitney loved most.”

Bobbi Kris then took the mic to say that she “just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all. Not just when it was good, but when it was bad too. Thank you so much for showing that much love, ’cause she deserved it. There will never be another one, ever. I thank you so much.”

Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb Passes Away

It’s another sad day for music. Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees passed away after a long battle with liver cancer at the age of 62.

The Bee Gees, short for the Brothers Gibb, gave us the classic hits “Stayin Alive,” “Jive Talkin’,” and “Night Fever.” Their Saturday Night Fever soundtrack is credited with the revival of disco. The group consisted of Barry Gibb, the eldest, and twins Robin and Maurice Gibb. It was their tree-part harmonies that became their signature sound.

The family of the late singer released a statement:

“The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.

Robin leaves behind his wife Dwina Murphy Gibb, four children, and brother/bandmate Barry Gibb.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends.
