Exclusive Interview: Lauren Conrad

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

lauren_conrad1

Ever since she was a little girl, Lauren Conrad had big dreams of being involved in fashion. What she didn’t know was that a hit reality show on MTV would give her the biggest break of her life. The reality show “Laguna Beach” started Conrad’s small screen debut and resulted in nationwide love for the “girl-next-door”. A few years later and a spin-off show, “The Hills”, of her own would land Conrad smack dab in the middle of the world of her dream…fashion. “The Hills” transformed Conrad into a reality television star and gave her the opportunity to live out her dreams. Not only is she a reality television star and a fashion designer, Lauren is a spokesmodel and a fiction writer. “LA Candy” is the first of a series of three books that Lauren is set to release. In fact, her book is on bookshelves today, June 16, 2009.

Danity Donnaly got the privilege of chatting it up with the dahling Ms. Conrad to dish on her experience as a reality star, her new book LA Candy and more. Check out the entire interview below!

DANITY: First, Lauren…it’s inevitable…we’ve gotta talk about “The Hills”. So…now that your time on The Hills is done, what can you say is the biggest thing you learned about yourself throughout the whole experience?

LAUREN: I learned a lot about friendship and trust and hard work. It was a great experience and really do miss the crew. They were like a second family to me.

DANITY: I bet! I mean, it’s been what…five years. Did you ever think that when you signed a contract with MTV FIVE years ago that your show would be as successful as it came to be? I mean, people were obsessed!

ESMEE DENTERS

Esmee Denters started out as just an ordinary girl with a dream. With a web cam and her vocal talent, Denters began posting YouTube videos up of herself singing covers of songs anywhere from Mariah Carey to Stevie Wonder. Her videos became popular and soon requests for Esmee to cover various songs became common. After attaining a manager, while thousands of video views kept rolling in daily, what Esmee didn’t know was that Justin Timberlake was among those watching.  I had the privilege of speaking with the YouTube sensation to discuss her journey thus far as a musician in the entertainment industry. Read the interview below, bitches!

DANITY: Alright, dahling, let’s get this started. When did you first become interested in music? How?

ESMEE: Ever since I can remember I have loved music. I think it all started because my dad is such a music freak. We had all types of records around the house from The Beatles to Stevie Wonder. I think that’s why I started to develop an interest for music.

DANITY: The million dollar question that I know I and my readers are dying to know is…how did you come to the decision to post and share your videos up on YouTube?  I mean, it really takes a lot of guts NOT knowing if peeps were going to rip you apart or adore you.

ESMEE: I was looking on the Internet one day and discovered YouTube. I thought it was so cool that you could share your own videos. I found my sister’s old webcam and got the idea to post some videos of me singing covers. I never really had a plan. I just wanted to know what people thought of my voice.

Exclusive Interview: Levar Thomas

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

levar

LEVAR THOMAS

He’s a southern gentleman with a dream. A man with a talent for putting emotions down on paper and sounding off those words with the musical instrument he’s been given…his voice. And he knows how to use it. LeVar Thomas is a name you must take note of…write it down…take a picture of it…because let me tell you, this down-to-earth, determined, handsome and talented individual is about to take the music industry by storm one way or another. I had the pleasure of asking LeVar a few questions about his background, his dream celebrity date and his love for Stevie Wonder. Peep out the full interview below!

LeVar’s Music Here!

Danity: Let’s get to you know a little bit LeVar because when you reach fame and fortune we want to know that we have all the real details about ya straight from your mouth, dahling. So, how long have you been singing?

LeVar: I started singing on the youth choir at Silver Bluff Baptist Church at age 7.
When I was 13, I joined a group with 3 cousins and a friend from school. We sang, wrote music and performed together for about 10 years and leading up to now that makes 20 + years.

Danity: So in a few statements, how would you describe your music?

LeVar: I usually ask the listener to decide. I just grab my pen and let it flow. The two words I hear in response most are smooth and soulful. Old school soul meets positive new school vibe.

Danity: Nice, so when you say old school there must be a few legends that inspire you. Can you fill us in on who your musical influences are?

LeVar: Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder are two that rank up top. Both of them have voices that blow you away. They both have a special attention to their musical content, lyrically and vocally. Stevie Wonder I admire especially for his philanthropic approach to writing.

Danity: Love both of those men. So, LeVar, give me your story. What does your musical background consist of?

LeVar: In 2002, I found myself unhappy with my job I’d been working at for 6 years and I wasn’t singing much and I really missed it. I quit that job, took my 401K and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. I figured I’d get successful in the mecca of music. I met some great musicians there who worked with and encouraged me.

After awhile, I knew I had to make some recordings to demo. I didn’t have money for studios, so I sold my first car and bought a home studio.

I started by posting cover songs on Myspace and I started getting tracks from budding producers who liked what I was doing. I also started doing videos on Youtube that went on to get Editor’s Picks and other awards. My account got shut down due to vigorous promotion..lol. Some call it spam. What can I say, I was eager.

From then on everything just snowballed. I won $10,000 in an internet talent contest called Clipstar and met my first manager who encouraged me to write, write, write. His advice paid off because my songwriting skills have grown. I’ve now been in New York for a year and the sky is the limit. I’ve already met some very interesting and interested people, have near tripled my catalog of songs and can’t wait to see what happens next!

Exclusive Interview: Future Pilot

Friday, February 27th, 2009

futurepilot2

True musicians are hard to find these days as many are manufactured and pre-packaged pop stars. (*cough Cheetostar *cough) Boo, hiss on manufactured bitches!

But I have been digging deep and have been on the search for some true, fabulous rock stars that deserve a little TLC from Danity Donnaly. Future Pilot is an independent band based out of the fabulous state of New Mexico. Now typically I’m not a huge fan of grunge, rock and roll, but when I came across Future Pilot’s music I knew I had to talk to the guys from this group.

Originally formed in 2004, Future Pilot is the perfect example of a true rock band…they play their own instruments AND they write their own jams. I.admire.that. Band members include lead Derek Spaulding, Max Friedman on bass guitar, Chris Griffin on rhythm guitar, and Elliott Minkin on the drums. I was lucky enough to speak with Derek (the lead dude) from Future Pilot and he filled me in on life with the band and his passion for music.

Danity Donnaly: So, Derek, tell me, how did you first get into music?

Derek Spaulding: We all come from different musical backgrounds, but the one common thread we all have is that we were into music from a very young age. The Beatles were the first group that made me want to do something with music when I was about three years old. I got into MIDI sequencing when I was about 13 and started actually creating things.

Danity Donnaly: I can see how the Beatles would make you want to rock. So what’s up with the band’s name? How did you come up withFuture Pilot?

Derek: I was at the University of Texas at Austin on an Air Force scholarship. While there I met up with a fellow scholarship recipient who wanted to start a band. As it turned out, we didn’t really fit in with the throngs of people who were there to become pilots. It was an ironic name for our band, and we liked the sound of it. Although my friend didn’t stay in the band, the name carried forward.
