Rest in peace, Etta James

The legendary Etta James (yes, the one who sings At Last) has passed away at the age of 73. We reported back in December 2011 that Etta was terminally ill with her ongoing battle with chronic leukemia, dementia AND kidney failure.

Despite her most recent health issues, James will be remembered most for her song At Last, a song that has been played at many-a weddings. Come on, don’t tell me you haven’t slow danced to this song!

James’ manager Lupe De Leo confirmed the sad news saying that she did pass away at Southern California’s Riverside Community Hospital from complications of leukemia. “This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world. She was a true original who could sing it all—her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always.”

For the flick Cadillac Records, Beyonce portrayed her best Etta, who was a consistent and successful performer for the span of FOUR decades. Back in 1993, James was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and rightfully so.

Rest in peace to one of the best soul singers of our lifetime!
