As Dixie Cooney on All My Children and Rosanna Cabot on As The World Turns, actress Cady McClain has pretty much done it all. She’s survived death more than a few times, been hospitalized, committed to a mental institution, married her soul mate (more than once), and of course, there were those pesky pancakes.
When you watch soaps, you accept things that might ordinarily be a little out of the realm of possibility. There are long-lost evil twins and rarely are people ever really dead. Sure, the bizarre is still bizarre, but bizarre and absurd is readily acceptable. Even still, there are a few things that do grab your attention and leave you a little shocked… things like Peanut Butter Pancakes… and if you are a fan of All My Children, you know just what I’m talking about.
With All My Children approaching its end, the two time Emmy Award winner is back once more to reprise her role as Dixie Cooney- a role she’s made her own throughout the years- and I recently had the chance to speak to her about her years spent on All My Children and what she has planned after the show’s end this fall. Check it out after the jump!
On how she reacted when she first saw the script for the infamous “Peanut Butter Pancakes”:
You know, I’m kind of funny about my reactions. When something, kind of big happens, I almost don’t react at all. I get very calm. So, I’m very good in a crisis, you know? So, I didn’t really have much of a reaction until I finished taping the whole thing- and then it was a long, slow dawning of WTF?
On how she found out that the show was canceled:
…I was in a cab talking to my agent. I was in the middle of negotiating the contract for coming back – they wanted me to come back for a year, and it’s like, ‘well, I guess we’re not in negotiations anymore, they’ve canceled the show.’
