There is no denying that Nilanti Narain is captivating and it’s certainly no surprise that she’s been modeling since she was 15- doing commercial work for Capital One, Mark Ecko and Nissan (among others) and gracing the covers and pages of Elle, Show, Exotic, GIANT, and many more. But don’t think for a second that beauty is all that Nilanti has going for her. Sure, her beauty is unquestionable, but so is her talent, charisma and vision.
As a first generation Fijian-Indian, Nilanti’s cultural roots contribute to both her beauty and her passion- and from the very beginning that passion has driven her to succeed and helped her keep her dreams of becoming a singer alive. Despite her successful modeling career, Nilanti has always been waiting on the opportunity to showcase her voice- a voice that is every bit as beautiful as she is.
I recently had the chance to talk to Nilanti, and trust me when I say that she is absolutely amazing. In the interview, the exotic beauty dishes on everything- from her modeling career to her heritage, and how she incorporates her life, experiences and loves into her passion for music. Take a look and listen after the jump!
On keeping her ‘eye on the prize’:
…It’s always been my heart, pretty much; I’ve always wanted to do it. I’ve always wanted to make it my main focus. And it always pretty much has been my main focus, but as far as the whole of my career, saying ‘Okay, this is all I’m doing right now.’ Now is that, thank God, because I feel like now is the time where it’s ready to become what it’s going to become.
…. Sometimes people wake up and they’re like, “Oh, this is really tough, and I don’t know if this is going to happen.’ And I just never woke up thinking that. It was always a main priority for me, even when I was modeling. I always share that with people…. everyone knew that I was a singer, but no one had really heard me sing. And I did that on purpose because I wanted it to be impactful when it came out. There are so many model/singers. I’m not knocking that, but for me the timing was everything with it so that when it comes out and I share it with the world is when it’s going to be dynamically big.
Of course, this is just one of the many things we talked about. For more listen to the full interview below and remember to follow Nilanti HERE on Twitter, where, by the way, she describes herself as a “Recording Artist/International Cover Model/Baddest Indian Chick In The Game!- and after talking with her myself, I have to agree. She’s all that and more!
You should also head on over to iTunes and get her newly released single, “Put Me On“, featuring DJ Class! Aaaaaand, while you’re at it, be sure to watch the video for the song HERE!
Have I mentioned that she’s awesome? Enjoy!
