Hailee Steinfeld Going Nude for Shakespeare
Nude scenes in movies are controversial enough. A fourteen year old girl nude? That’s risque beyond belief. Even still, Hailee Steinfeld is planning on appearing naked in the up and coming adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.
An excerpt of the film’s script, which was written by Julian Fellowes, was published in Britain’s Sunday Times, revealing the rather scandalous scene. The script reads, “They (Romeo and Juliet) start undressing each other – slowly, gently and carefully until they are naked. They are eternal figures in a Raphael painting. Romeo then carries her to bed, kissing her again and again as they explore uncharted territory. Then they make love, transported into each other’s soul.” Just like in Shakespeare’s original work, Fellowes found it important to have actors who were age-appropriate. Fellowes stated, “I wanted Hailee because she is the perfect age. Juliet is at that stage of… what you might call a child/woman. Just like Hailee herself is.” While it is not certain whether a body double will be used or not, the scene will be happening.
In my opinion, I hope a body double is used. Whether it’s tasteful or not, I find it a bit creepy for a 14 year old girl’s body to appear in a film. And, I can’t imagine being Hailee. Fourteen is such an age of insecurity…if she ends up doing it, all I can say is, “You go, girl!”
