While you may think that Helena Christensen has become irrelevant in the world of modeling, think again, bitches. Helena is still fierce as ever as she graces the cover of the April issue of In Style UK. Helenaposes for a fabulous photo shoot and dishes on her career, her love life and her love-hate relationship with fitness. Peep some of the highlights below.
ON BEING THE UGLY DUCKING GROWING UP:
It’s the usual story, I was super-skinny, mocked by other kids,“I started to fill out at 18, 19, but I can still feel the pain of all those years. Maybe because I dealt with those issues growing up, I wasn’t going to let anyone make me feel uncomfortable about my body again.”
ON HER ECLECTIC STYLE:
I didn’t wear jeans for the first 30 years of my life. If I see an ‘It’ bag in the papers, I’m like, that’s the one I’m not getting. I’d feel slightly embarrassed buying something you’re supposed to. I have a very eclectic wardrobe. I like mixing fabrics and colours, things that don’t obviously go together. And I only ever buy men’s trousers because I like straight lines, and kids’ sweaters in the largest size.
ON WHY SHE HAS NEVER LIVED WITH A MAN:
I’ve never lived with anyone except my son. My life is travel, so it just happened that way. It’s not like I set out to live like that, but now it would be a big thing to move in with somebody. I’m used to my own place, my own things. But you know, if I met the right person, I’m sure I’d be like, “Move in tomorrow, put your things everywhere”. That would probably work for a while and then I’d need a bit of balance!
ON HAVING MORE CHILDREN:
Oh yeah. Though it’s so amazing what I have. I look at my child and think, if me and his father could create this, what else could you create?
ON STAYING IN SHAPE:
Age in itself doesn’t freak me out. I’m in better shape than I was at 25 because I’m actually doing something physical, which I never did until two years ago because I was way too lazy.
I try to go boxing twice a week and I run, but after exactly 21 minutes, I’m ready to lie down and vomit. I’m super-lucky with my metabolism.
I eat more than anyone I know, so I have to be realistic – that might not always be the situation. That’s why I chose really intense training. It was a question of, if I want to continue eating that much, I need to balance it out.
