James Cameron isn’t a dummy, but Titanic in 3D? Will that be a big draw? Probably. After ten years of the successful movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, James Cameron has decided to bring the hit movie back to the big screen, but in 3D. So yes, that means we will be able to watch Titanic go down in 3D.
With the success of Avatar and its 3D technology, James Cameron had previously joked that he would “update” his hit movie Titanic with the same 3D effects. However, please note…he was supposedly joking at that time.
But now that he’s seen the success that Avatar has brought him, he’s got enough money in the bank to dish out some dough to make Titanic a 3D flick too.
Cameron told USA Today, “We’re targeting spring of 2012 for the release (of a 3D version of Titanic), which is the 100 year anniversary of the sailing of the ship.”
Oh and in case he didn’t quite make enough ching with Avatar, he is also talking about re-releasing Avatar by releasing a director’s cut. He adds, “The wild card is that we might be re-releasing the movie this fall. It’s kind of gotten stomped out (in theaters since the release) of Alice in Wonderland. The word we’re getting back from exhibitors is we probably left a couple of hundred million dollars on the table as a result. The question is the appetite still going to be there after the summer glut of movies. We’re going to assess that. We’re talking about maybe adding in additional footage and doing something creative.”
