Let’s just say getting cast for Dancing With the Stars was a blessing in disguise for Jennifer Grey. In preparation for the show, contestants are required to undergo a full physical before they hit the dance floor. And for Grey, her physical resulted in the discovery of a cancerous tumor.
While Grey thought she was in decent enough shape to take on DWTS, her physical at the time proved otherwise. Jennifer told a source, “Last year, my neck was killing me so I said to [show execs], ‘Let me have it checked out and see if I even could do this’. I went to this neurological spine surgeon who I heard was the best. I knew he had operated on Karina [Smirnoff], and I figured I would tell him I wanted to do Dancing With the Stars and ask him what I needed to get through it.”
But this lump wasn’t totally something she was unaware of. She had been in a car accident awhile back and the lump had been present since then.
The doctor who discovered the lump was shocked to know that she had been living with this for such a prolonged amount of time. She explains, “He said to me, ‘What’s that lump in your neck?’ I said, ‘Oh, it’s just a benign nodule that I’ve been watching for four years’. I didn’t want to have surgery for it, but he said, ‘That has to go’. They took out half of it, and it turned out to be cancerous. Then they took the second half out on Christmas Eve. [I had more surgery] in the back of my neck, to clean out the nerves that were compressed. Now, I’ve got a new neck. And I also have no cancer.”
Nobody puts Baby in the corner! Take that cancer, you freakin’ douchebag!
