Johnny Tapia is dead at the age of 45. He leaves behind his wife Teresa Tapia. We don’t have a lot of information about Teresa or whether he had any children. What we do know is that Johnny had quite the tragic life and it seemed to end that way too.
Family members say Albuquerque police were summoned to Tapia’s house at 7:45 PM Sunday by a family member who discovered the body.Cops say the death does not appear suspicious, but an official cause has not been determined.
Tapia is a 5-time world champ. His life was marked by tragedy. Tapia’s dad was murdered while his mom was pregnant with him. And when Tapia was 8, his mother was kidnapped, raped and hanged.
Tapia did have a history with drug and alcohol abuse. Back in 2007 he was hospitalized for a cocaine overdose. It was after one day of being in the hospital his brother-in-law and his nephew were killed in car accident on their way to visit HIM in the hospital.
So damn sad. I think I would steer clear of going to this funeral and have a small memorial of my own.
Rest in peace Johnny and our thoughts are with Johnny Tapia’s wife Teresa and the rest of his family.
