While Katy Perry works on a new album, she is talking. In fact, the once Christian music singing songstress is insisting she is not fake…you know, that she’s not a manufactured artist. Mmhmm. And she agrees that her earlier songs are as annoying as a pop star can get. This time around, Perry is looking to shed the big berries and banana peel ensembles for something darker. Perhaps hanging around RiRi has rubbed off on her?
Perry says, “The biggest conception [of me] is that it’s someone else’s idea, or that I’m just a vessel. Some people don’t think I’m the captain of my ship.”

Perry’s next plan is to get her competition on with the eclectic pop stars out there today. Perry says, “You’ve got GaGa, who’s, like, from outer space; you’ve got Ke$ha, who’s the beer-drinking, house-party girl; and then you’ve got Rihanna, who’s transforming the urban world into her own outer space.”
So a reinvention of sorts is in the works. Perry tells Nylon magazine, “The new music is still fun, but it’s a bit darker. It’s not as annoying. Sometimes I feel like a big strawberry with a face on it. If you do something over and over again it’s like Chinese water torture. If it hits your head enough times, you want to die. You have to just evolve.”
And so with that being said, Kitty Kat claims she’s going to do her damnedest to be the Alanis Morissette of this era. She adds, “…I feel like you’re missing an Alanis Morissette in 2010. I love how she was a voice for a lot of people who couldn’t explain their feelings. But it’s not like I’m not gonna compete. I love a good dose of healthy competition. It’s not going to be the same that they’re doing.”
