With Katy Perry‘s new album, Teenage Dream, hitting stores August 24th, you may be wondering what to expect beyond her recently released hit singles. Musicians are known for translating their emotions into music, and it seems Katy is no exception. Her song, “Circle the Drain” just so happens to be about her ex- Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes.
Yes, before there was Katy and Russell, there was Katy and Travis. Katy and Travis dated on and off throughout 2008, before breaking up sometime after New Years 2009. It’s no secret that Travis is a recovering drug attic, by his own admission. And it was reportedly that drug addiction that led to the couple’s demise.
And just what does ‘Circle the Drain’ have to say about Mr. McCoy?
“Thought I was the exception/ I could rewrite your addiction/ You could have been the greatest/ But you’d rather get wasted/ You fall asleep during foreplay/ ‘Cause the pills you take are more your forté/ I’m not sticking around to watch you go down/ Wanna be your lover/ Not your f**king mother.”
Katy confirmed to Billboard magazine that the song is indeed her version of ‘You Oughta Know’ – the ultimate hate filled break up song by Alanis Morissette. Ouch!
