Lady Gaga & Target break-up
Target and Lady Gaga‘s romance ended before it ever really began. Yes, Gaga has nixed her deal with Target, which offered Target an exclusive deluxe addition of her upcoming album, Born This Way.
Last month Gaga told Billboard that the deal “hinged upon their [Target's] reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they’ve made supporting those groups.”
Was Gaga less than pleased with Target’s efforts at redemption?
So far it looks like it. According to E!, a rep from the singer issued a statement saying Gaga and Target “came to a mutual decision to end their overall exclusive partnership.”
Here’s a little of the backstory: Last year reports surfaced that Target donated money to MN Forward- a political action committee that supported anti-LGBT MN gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer (he lost). Emmer, by the way, is an uber-conservative that has been linked to a ministry that advocates killing gay people. Target said they’d monitor their political donations more closely, but then managed to give even more money to anti-LGBT groups. Oops.
Clearly, the above was an issue for Gaga, especially since Born This Way is her anthem to the LGBT community and minorities.
A source has told The Advocate that “She and Target didn’t see eye to eye on Target’s policy of political donations and how they affect the LGBT community.”
A rep for Gaga confirms to E! that “Lady Gaga and Target came to a mutual decision to end their overall exclusive partnership a few weeks ago.”
Sucks for Target; It looks like the partnership was doomed from the get-go.
