“You don’t dress for where you are you dress for where you want to be”–Monica Barnett.
Every woman gets that little extra pep in her step when she’s dressed to impress. Whether it’s a new pair of pumps that make your gams look like you spent hours in the gym or that perfect pair of jeans that hug in all the right places, there’s no doubt the right outfit can change your attitude. Stylist Monica Barnett not only knows this, she’s made a career out of it.
Monica is the Founder and President of Blueprint for Style, a personal styling and image consulting company and one of the fabulous stylists for ShoeDazzle.com. She is the go to gal for all things stylish and sophisticated, which makes her perfect for our latest edition of the Fashionably Fab Five!
Lexi: What are the top trends for Spring/Summer that every girl needs in her closet?
MB: Hmmm this is a little difficult since every girl isn’t built the same nor does she have the same lifestyle requirements, but I’d say (1) STRIPES are a great way to add a bit of variety to the everyday item and it instantly adds color and vibrance; (2) VIBRANT COLORS should not be missed because color makes you look younger and even if you’re shy, you can use vibrants in your accessories like shoes; and (3) PANTS SUITS because indeed every lady should have a mens-inspired suit to fall back on in a neutral color (grey or camel)!
Lexi: What is your favorite trend for Spring/Summer 2011?
MB: By far, pants and pantsuits are my favorite because they are versatile, allow a woman to be feminine even as a power player, and can be broken up to be rocked several different ways!
Lexi: ShoeDazzle takes a look for less approach, taking designer styles and making them affordable for everyone’s closet. What are some examples of styles that are affordable replicas of designer styles?
MB:You’ll see lots of platforms with almond-shaped toes which are very similar to the YSL Tribute; the jewelry has a hint of Alexis Bittar and Ruth Barzel; and several have the similar feel to shoe design stalworts like Sam Edelman, Charles David, and Chie Mihara.
Lexi:Spring is bombarding us with bright, tropical punch colors. How can our readers integrate this trend into their wardrobe without looking like an Easter egg?
MB: Easy – baby steps! Opt for using vibrants in your accessories like purses, scarves, belts and shoes. Do present contrast colors and avoid the Easter Egg scenario by either making the entire outfit about contrasting vibrants or keeping it small and in check with accessories
Lexi: What are some of your picks (bags and shoes) for the fashionista who wants to integrate some spring accessories into their wardrobe that are girly, but still have a little bit of an edge to them?
MB: The Privy from ShoeDazzle is the perfect transition shoe. Nude shades are so hot right now and the pop of neon keeps it super sexy. As for bags I am loving the Siberia clutch from ShoeDazzle in Gold. It is the perfect size for night and combines two of springs hottest trends; metallic and animal print.
