Hey kids! Do you like vampires? And sexy German lesbians? Well, have I got a movie for you!
I just watched the IFC Films distributed film, We Are The Night.
The movie puts a slightly new spin on the vampire tale, but still had far too many cliches. It certainly doesn’t waste much time diving into the plot. Faster than you can say, “I want to go to the discotech in Stuttgart“, we are thrown right into this blood pool.
We Are The Night, or Wir sind die Nacht as it is know in Germany, follows a young woman who gets bitten by a female vampire and becomes drawn into the sexy lesbian vampire world. The young woman falls in love with a police officer who investigates a murder case involving her three new vampire friends.
The four girls are kinda like the Sex In The City women, if they were vampires. They spend their nights clubbing, screwing around, buying shoes and jewelry, and drinking blood to stay young. So I guess they are just like the women of Sex In The City.
As sexy and pretty as the movie tries to be, it certainly comes across as shallow at times. I understand what direction they were going in, and I did enjoy certain aspects of it, but it could have been a lot more. We Are The Night needed to be more like Interview With The Vampire and less like The Craft meets Underworld.
