NBC has lined up another comedy from a Chelsea Handler panelist!
After the success of Whitney, starring comedienne Whitney Cummings, the network has set to debut Life As I Blow It, based on Sarah Colonna’s upcoming book and follows Colonna and her life in the Midwest surrounded by eccentric friends and family whose opinions and actions know no boundaries.
Happy Madison and Sony TV are producing. Colonna will write the script and executive produce with Danielle Sanchez, who will supervise, Doug Robinson, Abbey MacDonald, Michael Pelmont and Brian Volk Weiss.
Though Colonna appears regularly on Chelsea Handler’s late-night show and spin-off on sister network E!, Life As I Blow It would mark her first star vehicle if ultimately picked up to series. It would also join Handler’s adaptation Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, starring Laura Prepon, on NBC’s schedule.
“Part of what we need to do at NBC is to get people to know that we’re doing things different and a little more in-your-face,” the network’s entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt told THR of Handler’s project last spring. One assumes Colonna’s effort would fit the same bill — and like Handler’s, Colonna’s offers cross-promotional opportunities, appealing for Comcast executives looking to embrace corporate synergy.
Colonna’s other small screen credits have included Last Comic Standing, Monk and Scare Tactics.
What do you think about NBC’s line-up of Chelsea comediennes? Awesome for funny ladies, or estrogen overkill?
