While the Oscars 2012 Red Carpet gave us lot of style stunners, as always, there were the fashion flops. Dictators, neons with lace and floating bodices all made my list of fashion fails. See my worst after the jump.
The Dictator, Wearing John Galliano and socks from K-mart. Surrounded by female “soldiers” looking like they just left the set of a porn. He accessorized with the urn of the ashes of Kim Jung Il which later spilled onto Ryan Seacrest.
Why Kmart socks: “As Saddam Hussein once said to me, ‘Socks are socks. Don’t waste money.’”
—Sacha Baron Cohen as Adm. Gen. Shabazz Aladeen from The Dictator
Kate Mara: Too much beading on this dress. She kept with the one shoulder trend but, looks like a Sweet 16 cake exploded on her.
Nancy O’Dell: Yellow capsleeve gown with black lace accents. Too bright, unflattering color on her. The shade photographed more highlighter than sunny.
Maria Menunos- Loved the color, pale seafoam green, but the bodice just kind of floated on her front, looked like it could shift at any moment and cause a major wardrobe malfunction.
Melissa McCarthy, custom design. For me, a little too blousony, not tailored enough. Loved the color and the rhinestone accents, just not figure flattering enough, needs to take a cue from Octavia Spencer.
Emma Stone in John Bastista…channeling Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga, which is the only reason she made my fashion flops. It’s just too similar to the dress Nicole Kidman wore in 2007. It’sa gorgeous red silk chiffon, exaggerated red bow at neck. Love a redhead who isn’t afraid to wear red. Plus that winged liquid liner added just enough pizzazz to her makeup. Just do your research before you repeat a classic style win.
Missi Pyle- Oh, how I love seafoam green. Especially for spring, but that crooked mermaid hem at her knees and the awful pleating and draping. It’s a disaster.
Jane Seymour. Oh how I hate to write anything critical about Jane Seymour. At …her body could still make any man get a chubby walking down the street. But this red dress with the sequin and haphazard chevron stripes did that rockin bod no justice. Maybe if it was tailored differently.
Honorable Mention: Black nails on the red carpet. Given the trend of pastels, white dresses and neons for spring, black nails just seem out of place on this red carpet. Fashion offenders include: Leslie Mann, Kelly Osbourne, Natalie Portman, and Jessica Chastain.
