That is, if Simon Cowell is to be believed. The former judge on American Idol tweeted yesterday to his nearly 4 million followers the news.
“Just heard Randy is back on Idol,” Cowell tweeted to his 3.6 million followers. “Right decision.”
This news can be viewed at many different angles. It could mean that the producers of American Idol cannot afford all of the contenders for next season’s judges. Between Enrique Iglesias, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj, the salaries for all of them combined would hover around $15 million dollars. That is a considerable sum yes, but that does not even include the salary of Mariah Carey, who is expected to make about $18 million dollars, and is currently the only judge signed so far.
Perhaps Carey threw around her considerable weight (pun not intended) to get Jackson back in a judging chair? The two are very close friends and Jackson is also one of Mariah’s music producers for many years. One thing for certain is that having Randy Jackson back will free up millions of dollars for whomever else they do sign. If they retain a three judge format, then Keith Urban and Enrique (possibly Adam Lambert) have a shot and that leaves Nicki Minaj the tranny man out. If they decide to revert back to a four person judging table, then Minaj is back on as a potential judge and Mimi may have a coronary. The producers at American Idol have less than two weeks to get this table going full steam ahead.
Stay tuned!
