R.E.M. debuts ‘Collapse Into Now’!

R.E.M., Collapse Into Now

Attention R.E.M fans: today is the day! The band’s spankin’ new studio album, Collapse Into Now, is now officially available for your purchasing pleasure, courtesy of Warner Bros. Records!

Already receiving praise from the likes of Spin, Rolling Stone and NPR, with NPR saying the album “reaffirms R.E.M. as a vital, thoughtful, and gifted band with plenty left to say.”  Check out all the album details after the jump!

Collapse Into Now found R.E.M. (singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck, and bassist Mike Mills) re-teaming with Grammy Award-winning producer Jacknife Lee, whom they’d worked with on Accelerate.

R.E.M recorded the album in New Orleans at the Music Shed, as well as in Berlin at the famed Hansa Studios and at Blackbird Studio in Nashville. Given the time spent in the Big Easy, a Mardi Gras debut is certainly fitting.

But the R.E.M fun isn’t over yet; the band is gearing up to begin the Collapse Into Now Film Project, which will be a selection of films accompanying each song on the album directed by notable artists and filmmakers. The project will even be curated by Stipe himself. As for the directors, they include James Franco, Sam Taylor-Wood and Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles.

So, stay tuned to the band’s website HERE for a release schedule of the film, and if you’re headed to SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX you can see a selection of the films presented by Stipe there on March 16th at the Alamo Drafthouse and hosted by IFC/Sundance.
