The Return Of A Legend: WARREN BEATTY

It’s been 10 years since Warren Beatty had any involvement in a Hollywood movie. That’s about to change.

I only have a handful of Hollywood legends that I consider true icons. A few I that really look up to. I envy the lives lived by producer Robert Evans, actor Jack Nicholson and playboy Hugh Hefner. All well into their 70′s and 80′s, and if I had the pleasure of living in their shoes, I probably wouldn’t have done it any different than they did.

Above all of them, my true icon is still Warren Beatty. What a life! A critically acclaimed actor-writer-director-producer, as well as a political activist. He bedded just about every Hollywood hottie from 1960-1990, until he finally settled down and married the beautiful and classy Annette Bening. I want to be reborn, and I want that life.

Beatty isn’t exactly what you’d call a prolific filmmaker — he’s directed only four movies in more than three decades – so when he says he’s stepping behind the camera again, it’s news. Paramount Pictures announced yesterday that Beatty will direct and star in an untitled comedy for the studio.

No details are available at this point, but the film is based on an original script Beatty has written and will go into production by the end of this year. The 74-year-old Beatty won an Academy Award for Best Director for the 1981 drama Reds and also directed the 1978 comedy Heaven Can Wait, the 1990 comic-strip adaptation Dick Tracy, and the 1998 political satire Bulworth.

Rumors also swirl that he may want to either remake or film a sequel to Dick Tracy. Whatever he ends up doing,  I’m just glad to see the return of a real Hollywood legend.

Lights. Camera. ACTSEAN!
