The class of 2012′s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced and there’s a couple of interesting selections. But first, celebrating today with the HOF announcement will be Guns N Roses (welcome to the jungle bay bay), the Beastie Boys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Yes, you read that right. The Beastie Boys.
The inductee ceremony will take place in Cleveland on April 14th, 2012. So who else made this year’s class?
Details below.
How The Beastie Boys made the Hall of Fame (and the Rock and Roll HOF at that) is beyond me, however I am sure somebody has a good explanation for this one. Why they were selected over Heart, Joan Jett, the Cure, Donna Summer, or Rufus with Chaka Khan is baffling. Don’t get me wrong, I love these guys, but whatever. It is what it is.
Also included in the class is Laura Nyro, who brought Spanish Harlem soul and Broadway to the mix with her songs back in the 60′s. The woman has been dead since 1997 and sooner or later they were going to have to let her in.
Guns N Roses got in with their first time nomination, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers get in on their second.
Ever heard of the rock group The Small Face (later called the Faces)? Well it was comprised of Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones and they are getting inducted for their group. Stewart and Wood have both have been inducted into the HOF (Stewart as a solo artist and Wood with the Stones).
Here are other members of the class:
Freddie King (in the category of “Early Influences”)
Don Kirshner (in the non-performer slot)
Tom Dowd (best known for his soulful Atlantic recordings of the late ’60s)
R&B engineer Cosimo Matassa
classic-rock producer Glyn Johns
Congratulations rock stars!
