The sequel to last summer’s hit The Amazing Spider-Man may have found its Mary Jane. According to reports, actress Shailene Woodley has been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson for the upcoming film, which is slated to begin production in the beginning of 2013.
Woodley is best known for her big screen role in The Descendants and the television series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which is ending after this season, its fifth. Woodley would be joining the ranks of Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, and director Marc Webb. The role is Peter Parker’s other love interest after Gwen Stacy, which means there could be a love triangle brewing for this latest production of the Spider-Man series.
Now, I know it is my job to know all things Hollywood and report on it, but I really have no clue who this girl is. Sure, I’ve seen her on the red carpet and thought she was cute, but I have not seen a thing she’s been in so I cannot say one way or another if this is good casting. One thing is for certain: no matter how bad she is, she could not possibly destroy the juggernaut that is Spider-Man. And this certainly cannot be seen as anything other than an upwardly mobile move for the starlet. Good luck to her and hopefully she can act better than Blake Lively!
