If you attend Rutgers University, you now have the chance to take a college course on Beyonce. Yep. You can now sign up for a course called Politicizing Beyonce.

Kevin Allred, who is a lecturer, signed up to teach the class as part of the school’s Women’s and Gender Studies curriculum.

So what exactly WILL be studied in this class?

Well we are hearing that the class will be able to watch Beyonce’s music videos. Yeah but it isn’t ALL fun and games. Students will also explore how Bey’s image and her music has impacted the world because you know without Beyonce in this world, we wouldn’t know what the hell to do!

And no, this isn’t a joke. The university’s website confirms that this class will be offered.

“The performer’s music and career are used as lenses to explore American race, gender, and sexual politics… Course topics include the extent of Beyonce’s control over her own aesthetic, whether her often half-naked body is empowered or stereotypical, and her more racy performances as her alter ego, Sasha Fierce.”

Even though the course is named after Bey, there are discussions that “often lead to other vocalists, including Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Lady Gaga, and contemporary musicians who embrace the soul singing tradition like Adele and the late Amy Winehouse.”

I suppose once Georgetown University decided to offer students the Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay-Z, Rutgers got their ideas.

I really hope this doesn’t start a college course epidemic on various other celebrities. Can you imagine signing up for a class called the Rise and Fall of a Sex tape star turned fame monger? Hmmm, I wonder who would fit that bill?
