Thursday, February 11th, 2010

griswolds

I don’t know about you but one of my favorite movie characters is Clark Griswold. Chevy Chase has mastered that role and I’ll be damned if anyone could ever play it better than him. Good news for all you “Vacation” fans. There is another Vacation flick in the mudder focking works and New Line Cinema is taking on this one.

Weekend Movie Buzz: January 30th

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Time to get your booties out to the theaters to see some flicks! There are a few new ones out today that seem fairly decent. Peep out the new flicks and what they are about below.

taken

Taken – (PG-13) A former government operative comes out of retirement and uses his extensive training to rescue his daughter from a slave trade operation.

New In Town – (PG) A Miami businesswoman is transferred to rural Minnesota, and while she is there she re-evaluates her big-city values.

the_uninvited-2

Uninvited – (PG-13) Anna returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother. Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father has become engaged to her mother’s former nurse. That night, Anna is visited by her mother’s ghost, who warns her of Rachel’s intentions. Together, Anna and her sister try to convince their father that his current fiance is not who she pretends to be, and what should have been a happy family reunion becomes a lethal battle of wills between stepdaughters and stepmother.

Blessed Is the Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh – (NR) Hannah Senesh, a World War II-era poet and diarist, became a paratrooper, resistance fighter and modern-day Joan of Arc. Safe in Palestine in 1944, Hannah joined a mission to rescue Jews in her native Hungary. Shockingly, it was the only military rescue mission for Jews during the Holocaust. Hannah parachuted behind enemy lines, was captured, tortured and ultimately executed by the Nazis. Incredibly, her mother Catherine witnessed the entire ordeal–first as a prisoner with Hannah and later as her advocate, braving the bombed-out streets of Budapest in a desperate attempt to save her daughter.

The Class – (PG-13) Based on an autobiographical novel by Francois Begaudeau, a drama that follows the year in the life of a French schoolteacher working at a high-school in a tough neighborhood of Paris. Ethnicities, cultures and attitudes often clash in the classroom. As amusing and inspiring as the teenage students can be, their difficult behavior can still jeopardize any teacher’s enthusiasm for the low-paying job. Francois insists on an atmosphere of respect and diligence. Neither stuffy nor severe, his extravagant frankness often takes the students by surprise. But his classroom ethics are put to the test when his students begin to challenge his methods.

serbis

Serbis – (R) The Pineda family lives in and operates a run-down theater which shows dated porno double-features. The matriarch Nanay Flor, her daughter Nayda, son-in-law Lando and adopted daughter Jewel take turns manning the ticket booth and canteen. Her nephews Alan and Ronald are respectively the billboard painter and projectionist. As the various members of the family go about their daily activities, we get a glimpse of how they suffer and deal with each other’s sins and vices.

Any look appealing to you?

Weekend Movie Buzz

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Looking for something to do this weekend? What about a flick? There are a ton of great movies out in the theaters now and a few coming out today.

Here are the new theater releases that you might want to peep this weekend:

revolutionary

Revolutionary Road- (R) Frank and April, a married couple in the 1950s, have always seen themselves as special, different, ready and willing to live their lives based on higher ideals. So, as soon as they move into their new house on Revolutionary Road, they proudly declare their independence from the suburban inertia that surrounds them and determine never to be trapped by the social confines of their era. Yet for all their charm, beauty and irreverence, the Wheelers find themselves becoming exactly what they didn’t expect: a good man with a routine job whose nerve has gone missing; a less-than-happy homemaker starving for fulfillment and passion; an American family with lost dreams, like any other. Driven to change their fates, April hatches an audacious plan to start all over again, to leave the comforts of Connecticut behind for the great unknown of Paris. But when the plan is put in motion, each spouse is pushed to extremes–one to escape whatever the cost, the other to save all that they have, no matter the compromises.

inkheart

Inkheart – (PG) Mo Folchart possesses a secret ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads them aloud. But when Mo accidentally brings a power-hungry villain from a rare children’s fable to life, the villain kidnaps Mo’s daughter and demands Mo bring other evil fictional characters to life. In an attempt to rescue his daughter, Mo assembles a disparate group of friends –both real and magic–and embarks on a journey to save her and set things right.

underworld

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans – (R) Explores the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans.

donkey

Donkey Punch – (R) Three hot girls, four guys, and one mega-swanky yacht collide for a serious night of drugs and sexual deviancy. One debaucherous act goes too far though, turning this teen joy ride into a weekend of bloody bedlam.

killshot

Killshot – (R) When a husband and wife witness a shakedown, they discover that the Witness Protection Program is no match for a pair of ruthless killers who want them dead.

Rev. Road is one I am DYING to see, particularly for Leo. Yummers.

A Look Back At The Life Of Heath Ledger.

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

“I never had money, and I was very happy without it. When I die, my money’s not gonna come with me. My movies will live on – for people to judge what I was as a person. I just want to stay curious.”—Heath Ledger

Exactly one year later ago today, the news of Heath Ledger’s shocking death became known to all across the world. Oddly enough, today is the day that Heath was nominated for an Oscar for his role in The Dark Knight. Quite frankly, I really do despise writing about sad shiznit, so instead of the usual rig-a-ma-role you have access to reading regarding his death, I am instead going to write about happiness, rainbows, and butterflies. I didn’t know Heath personally, but let me tell ya, I loved the guy. He was a talented actor and I miss him. My heart just breaks for that little girl, but I think it is important for her to know that her daddy was a good man and touched the hearts of many in person and in the limelight.

I went through and picked out some of my favorite shots of Heath and a few fun little tidbits about the hunky stud to enjoy. RIP Heathy.

Paris Hilton To Get An Award?

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

paris3

Let’s face it…Paris Hilton is NOT going to be winning any award for her acting “skills” anytime soon…one hot minute…let me rephrase that…Paris the Heiress won’t be receiving an Oscar, Golden Globe or any other prestigious recognition for her acting abilities (or lack thereof). Now, a Razzie? Oh ho ho ho…a Razzie? Definitely a possibility. She sucks. Hardcore. And, no I’m not referring to her action-packed sex tape (get your mind outta the gutter)…have you seen The Hottie & the Nottie? Good gawd. Don’t. Waste.of.time.

If THREE Razzie award nominations won’t convince you, then I don’t know what else to tell ya. The Razzie nominations were announced today and let me put it this way…Paris got FOUR. If she doesn’t win at least ONE, I will die. Paris was nominated for worst producer, worst actress and worst screen couple (with Joel David Moore) in The Hottie & The Nottie. Oh oh wait…I’m NOT done… she was nominated as worst actress for her role in Repo! The Genetic Opera.

I’m kinda thinking Paris needs to just stick to what she does best…flirting with boys, leading them on…and creating sex tapes.

Speaking of sex tapes, there IS a rumor that another DOES exist…but this time, it’s along the lines of “Taxi Cab Confessions” meets “One Night In Paris”. Why am I NOT surprised?

Kate Winslet Ain’t No Angelina!

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

kate7

She is one of the most talented actresses in the industry today. She’s brutally honest and speaks her mind when necessary. Kate Winslet freakin’ rocks. Since her big onscreen success with one of the most successful films in history (“Titanic”), Kate Winslet has since been nominated for FIVE Oscars but hasn’t yet won one. But there is no doubt in my mind that this year could definitely be THE year Kate will take home at least one golden statue for her roles in either the “Reader” or her role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in “Revolutionary Road”. Ask David Hasselhoff or even Sharon Osbourne…the bitch has got talent! Her work speaks for itself…

WHY KATE IS PULLING AN “ANGELINA”:

Acting is great, I love it, but it’s bloody hard work, incredibly time-consuming and really challenging. Since my son was born, I’ve played a lot of very demanding parts, and you get to a certain point where you just need a break. I want to be a mum – not a mum who’s at work all the time.

HOW SHE MANAGES HER CAREER AND MOTHERHOOD:

It’s a lot to juggle: to be the wife that you want to be to your husband, to be the mother that you need to be to your kids – to do the school run every day and be there for all the crucial moments of their growing-up – and also to be able to do a job like acting, which demands so much of your emotional self, and to be able to give yourself to it wholeheartedly.

I think how it works for me, like for any working mother, is you just get really good at compartmentalizing. My kids will always be at the forefront of my brain anyway, and when I’m with them they are my absolute priority.

ON WORKING WITH HER HUBBY ON THE SET:

It was incredible to see Sam in action and watch how he worked with the other actors, not just me. He’s a marvelous teacher, and adapts himself around the needs of every actor, because we’re all different.

Both Leo and I are very quick, very, ‘Okay, tell me what you need – good idea, I’ve got it.’ But he was gentler with Kathy Bates (who plays a smaller part in the film), because she is a very gentle person and needs to be guided a little. She’s fairly close in age to Sam’s mother, and he became almost like a son to her. It was a lovely thing to see. He’s a wonderful director.

ON SAM AND WHETHER HE GETS JEALOUS OF HER ON-SCREEN SEXY TIME:

Of course not. I’m not a porn star. I’m not walking out there and having sex with other people for my job. He’s more concerned that I feel comfortable, and making sure I feel the love scene is justified.

I’ve done a lot of nudity in films and I feel very fortunate that, each time, the scene has been relevant and has actually enhanced the story. Sam has supported me in all of that, and has always felt the same way.

WHY SHE IS GLAD SHE ISN’T ANGELINA JOLIE:

Although I don’t know them, I do think about their situation. They’re like a walking soap opera, and the public wants to know what’s going to happen next. I didn’t choose this profession because I wanted to be famous. I come from a family of actors, who have often struggled, so I always thought I’d be lucky if I even got a job.

I’m grateful for my success because of the freedom it’s given me as an actress. The downside is how much more publicly available you become. I don’t want Mia or Joe to think being famous is about wearing beautiful dresses – if you’re on a red carpet and wearing a fabulous frock, it’s the result of years of hard graft.
