Simon Cowell talks Paula Abdul’s firing, replacement rumors

Believe it or not, Simon Cowell is blaming himself (more specifically his big mouth) for the big shakeup at The X-Factor. Since the firing of Paula Abdul and the disappointment that has plagued Paula’s fans, Simon has felt…well, responsible because he was the one who set unreasonable expectations for the show.

Cowell told Extra, “I would’ve liked to have kept [Paula]. She was very gracious, and I said that to her. She understands it’s business; it’s never personal.”

And as far as letting go Scherzinger? He really doesn’t think she’s punching her fist through walls. “I don’t think she’s mad. I think she’s disappointed.” Well, yeah. Unfortunately it was her big mouth and her actions that got her canned.

So why in the hell did he have to shake up the roster? Cowell explains, “It’s only because I opened my big mouth and said we were going to get 20 million [viewers]. If I hadn’t said that, everybody would be saying the show was a huge success.”

And why did he decide to ONLY keep L.A. Reid? As far as Cowell is concerned, “There’s not a record executive out there who is as good as him for the job.” True. I adore Reid.

Here is what he said about potential new judges:

As for the Beyonce rumors, they are “complete nonsense.”

He would love to have Madonna but she would be “expensive” (can you imagine the salary she’d be asking for? Cripes, she is charging her fans $300 to see her live in concert)!

So what about Katy Perry? Cowell thinks she would “fun” and “feisty.”

Even though Nick Cannon pretty much shot down rumors that his wife Mariah Carey would take on the X-Factor judge role, Simon says the door is still open. He said, “I would love her. but you can’t expect someone who’s just had two kids to make the kind of commitment you would need on this show.” But oh how we would LOVE her, despite her being too legendary for the show. Wink, wink.

The Next (Hopeful) Judges for X-Factor

Now, with Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and Steve Jones gone, we can all begin to speculate and dream about who our ideal judges would be for the X-Factor.

The problem with having judges replace this cast is that the people who…actually liked the show…may have trouble with getting used to a new format. Do we really want Paula Abdul/Nicole Scherzinger act-alikes who end up being wishy-washy about their voting power only because they don’t want to hurt feelings? And do we really want judges who keep complaining about how “tough” judging is?

No.

That’s why we like Simon Cowell.  For him, judging is like taking off a band-aid you’ve had on for too long…the process can be very quick, to the point, and extremely painful. But once it’s done, it’s done.

So, how can we add to the dynamic of the judges table without making an awful cry-fest?

Well, let’s hope that we can figure this out with our dream cast of X-Factor Judges…

Dream Judge # 1 – Lady Gaga

Okay, usually these judging gigs go to B-list celebrities that are hoping to revive a dying career, which is definitely not the case for Lady Gaga, but…one can only hope, right? With her combination of talent and her (seemingly) understanding (albeit, weird) nature…she would be a nice balance of actually knowing what she is talking about without the cruelty of Simon.

Dream Judge # 2 – Madonna

I mean, come on, really…I sing poorly and I would have no problems trying out for X Factor just to see Madonna in person. She has talent, she is an icon, and she tells it like it is. And, if they could some how bring Madonna and Lady Gaga, we are bound to see a bit of fun animosity (which, really…we all love that) between those two judges.

Dream Judge # 3 – Gene Simmons

Aside from the fact that as the lead singer of Kiss he has made a name for himself with that extra long tongue of his, Gene Simmons is no stranger to the world of singing contests. He appeared on American Idol as a guest judge and was considered for some time to be a great replacement for Simon Cowell.

Dream Judge # 4 – Katy Perry

Now, Katy, we all know that you are recovering from your post-marriage breakup, and so we all know that with any breakup the busier you get the less time you have to think about your former beau (it never works, but we all try). Plus, not only did she give great critiques on the people she judged while being a guest on American Idol, she has the love of the fans as well. She would definitely get my attention onto the X-Factor (plus, she doesn’t have the “once-was” factor that the newer judges for American Idol have…)

Dream Judge # 5 – Paul McCartney

I thought I would throw another icon on the list. How can we ever get a great contestant if we don’t have “the greats” up there to judge them? If X-Factor really wants to beat out American Idol, the judges table will have to be strengthened. And adding a former Beatle, and rock icon would definitely do the trick.

CONFIRMED: Paula Abdul NOT returning to X-Factor

We reported earlier this morning that Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones would not be returning to X-Factor as judge and host respectively as they had been fired. Canned. Let go. Axed. Buh-bye.

And then there was the rumor that judge Paula Abdul may not return.

Well, Abdul confirmed via her Twitter account that she will not return to the show for season two.

“Yes, it’s true; I won’t be returning to The X Factor next season. I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations…Simon & I, along with Fox & Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, & I have absolute understanding of the situation. Simon is, and will remain a dear friend of mine… and I’ve treasured my experience working this past season with my extended family at Fox and Fremantle. I want nothing more than for The X Factor to exceed ALL of their wildest dreams. This truly has been a blessing and I am most grateful.”

Sad, sad, sad. Poor Paula! Here’s hoping she can get herself another job soon.

Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, Steve Jones unemployed by X-Factor

It seems as if things have gotten a tad nasty over at X-Factor due to what I am guessing are as a result of the horrible ratings. Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger AND Steve Jones are no longer employees over at the FOX show.

We heard last night that host Jones and judge Scherzinger would not be returning to their positions and that was confirmed. As for the Abdul news, there has not been confirmation, however it will be damn interesting to see if it is true and what will happen as a result of Abdul’s ousting, considering Paula’s popularity.

Apparently Cowell didn’t miss Abdul THAT much. It was after much contemplation that Simon decided to bring Paula back beside for X-Factor’s premiere season. He was quoted as saying, “I missed her the second she left (Idol). Always loved working with her even though she can be a pain. I don’t know what it is about her, but I’ve always clicked with her. You just have to get that chemistry, and she’s right. I’ve never found anyone better than her.”

Welp, his thoughts have certainly changed is the ousting is the case. Here’s hoping that next season Simon can snag up some decent judges and they can get better ratings than the measly 12.4 million they drew in.

Joe Perry from Aerosmith Thoughts on American Idol

As much as I love American Idol and all those awesome singing contest shows, somehow I die a little inside when I consider all of these rock stars and pop stars I know and love going for these judging gigs. But then again, we all have to have a “day” job right? And there are those like me that remain addicted to these shows, no matter how repetitious they become. (more…)

Britney, Mariah, Kanye and Michael Jackson featured in new Pepsi commercial (VIDEO)

X-Factor is set to debut TONIGHT and with that, you know they are going to go hard or go home. And in true style, anything that is attached to Simon Cowell generates huge ad viewership. So, obviously Pepsi dished out some big dough to get a spot in this show’s premiere!

The commercial spot titled “Music Icons” features Pepsi’s rich music history, featuring global icons Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Ray Charles and Mariah Carey. “Music Icons” captures the essence of Pepsi and THE X FACTOR’s search for the next pop music star.

It is pretty cool and brings back some memories. However just seeing Michael in a Pepsi ad reminds me of burning hair for some reason.

We have the commercial before it airs tonight! Check it out!
