Taylor Swift may not have a year this year like she did last year. The country singing songstress just won herself another accolade. Best selling album of 2009. Now while this may not seem like a big fat surprise for you, Susan Boyle was right on her curly tail.
When I think about 2009, I do think about Taylor Swift and her magnificent year, sans Kanye West. Her sophomore effort, Fearless, sold 3.2 million copies last year. Umm, yeah that is pretty freakin’ amazing. But, she didn’t demolish her competition by any means. Scotland’s sweetheart Susan Boyle sold a whopping 3.1 million albums in 2009…not too shabby for a debut!
Now if we are getting technical here, Susan Boyle did earn herself the title for the top-selling album released IN 2009. Taylor’s Fearless was released in November 2008.
And if we are checking in on the most PHYSICAL albums sold in 2009, Boyle also tops that chart (if there ever was one) too. Now that is a pretty fabulous feat, but consider the target market for each singer. At any rate, Best Buy and other music outlets have got to be thanking Boyle for bringing in the peeps to their store.
So who was the top-selling male vocalist for 2009? Well not to disappoint, but it sure as hell wasn’t Kanye West. The deceased King of Pop, Michael Jackson, heralds that crown. Jackson’s greatest hits album titled Number Ones was the third top selling album for 2009. In another pretty astonishing statistic, in 2009, Jackson sold a total of 8.2 million copies of his various albums.
Lady Gaga‘s The Fame and My Christmas from Andrea Bocelli completed the top five list for best selling albums in 2009.
