‘The Expendables’ kicks butt and takes names.

The Expendables, Weekend Box Office Results

Sylvester Stallone‘s latest heavy hitting action movie proves that people still like to see this ensemble cast kick butt and take names. And explode. Who doesn’t like a few good explosions? Whatever the exact reason, The Expendables kicked box office bootay this weekend, making $35 million and coming in at number one.

So what other movies made the cut this weekend?

For one, Julia Roberts proved she’s still got it with her #2 debut with Eat, Pray, Love.  As for the other new release, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, came in at #5, while last weekend’s winners remained sandwiched in between.

August 13-15th Weekend Box Office results:

  1. The Expendables ($34.8 million)
  2. Eat, Pray, Love ($23.7 million)
  3. The Other Guys ($18 million)
  4. Inception ($11.3 million)
  5. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World ($10.6 million)
  6. Despicable Me ($6.9 million)
  7. Step Up 3D ($6.6 million)
  8. Salt ($6.4 million)
  9. Dinner for Schmucks ($6.3 million)
  10. Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore ($4.2 million)

The Expendables did so well, in fact, that Sylvester Stallone recently talked sequel to The Hollywood Reporter and said that his number one opening ranks among his top career thrills. Sly does give props to his fellow cast members though, telling THR:

I didn’t do this all by myself. It was a movie about teamwork, and the team helped make it a success. I always say that if you are a star — even a faded star — the light never goes out. You just need to rekindle it.

Looks like this weekend proved his point. Congrats to Sly and the boys.
