The This Is It movie premiere had many critics saying, “This is it???!!!”. But die hard fans were pleasantly surprised with the presentation of the musical documentary that showcased Michael Jackson’s final rehearsals for the comeback tour he was set to present at the O2 Arena in the UK. And with $2.2 million brought it from the first late-night screenings, I’m thinking that isn’t too shabby. Even more interesting were some of the celebrities’ ensembles and trout pouts on display. Michael Jackson can and probably will hit number one with This Is It, considering the first night of the documentary’s debut generated some big big ching.
According to Distributor Sony, on Wednesday matinees for “This Is It” already had surpassed the film’s haul from those first evening screenings. Considering that the studio paid $60 million for rights to the film, we’re thinking that big bill should be paid off by the weekend’s end. No problem.
So will This Is It do better than Miley Cyrus’ “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert,” the biggest concert movie on record? According to official stats, “Best of Both Worlds” had a $31.1 million opening weekend last year and pulled in $65.3 million domestically during its entire run.
