Miley Cyrus, Starkey Hearing Foundation gala
Three words to describe Miley: classy, gorgeous and protected
When Miley Cyrus strolled through on the red carpet, the songstress was poised, confident and well, protected (yes, a few big bodyguards strolled through in tuxes as well). Before Miley prepared to perform at the Starkey Hearing Foundation’s 11th So the World May Hear Gala, she chatted it up with us about her experiences with the Starkey Foundation, including her recent trip to Haiti.
Check out what she told us about her involvement with the charity and her thoughts on Amy Winehouse’s death.
The Starkey Hearing Foundation gala raised a whopping $7.2 million dollars and part of that can be attributed to Miley’s winning bid for a trip to Haiti. Miley tweeted, “Going back to Haiti
Just bid at the @starkeyhearing gala and it’s confirmed! I am so excited! Bringing all my friends this time. #blessed.”
Of her involvement with the Starkey Hearing Foundation Miley told us, “It’s crazy because you are surrounded by people who want to do good. There’s not many events that you go to where it’s not about people who can wear the highest heels or who looks the best. It’s really about doing good and I love surrounding myself, and you have to surround yourself with those people, so it’s good to have that.” Go on, girl!
On the death of Amy Winehouse, Miley told Celebrity VIP Lounge, “You know what, I think it is the same way as everyone else says, you know it really is such a loss to the music industry. We need more people like Amy and so for me I think that she’s watching over there..over all of us and hopefully she will inspire someone else, you know, with her music and also, you know, bring awareness for kids. I think there was, you know, people think that their bodies are indestructible and that we can handle anything but you just can’t.
Same thing goes with our hearing! Miley told the Starkey Hearing Foundation that “As an artist, I want to make sure fans are able to experience the magic of music as it was intended. By just lowering the volume and using the right protection for your ears, hearing loss can be prevented, which means never losing the ability to enjoy the sound of a guitar, a beautiful lyric or a favorite song.” Turn down the volume on your ipod, kids!
