Twenty five years after the original We Are the World was recorded (back in 1985), the money making song brought together high profile artists once again to record this time for a different cause. In 85′ it was to aid famine victims in Africa, this time it is to aid those affected by the Haitian earthquake.

The We Are the World 25 Years for Haiti recording session took place on Monday and took more than 16 hours to complete. The original song’s producers Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie helped to organize this particular project.

About the recording session, fellow Haitian Wyclef Jean told RadarOnline.com, “It was real emotional there was a bunch of kids from Haiti that were filming, survivors of the earthquake, and it was emotional. I was crying they were crying, but at the same time it was beautiful to see the music industry coming together to do what they can and bring awareness and make sure that the money that was raised goes to the right places and help rebuild Haiti. Of course people need water, they need food water and shelter but let’s not just build houses that will turn into shacks ten years form now. Let’s build real structures. Haiti was messed up way before the earthquake and now is the opportunity to really give them the stability and the structure they need to thave a real future and participate in the world.”

One unique aspect about this particular recording session was that NONE of the original entertainers performed in this remake version of We Are The World.

More than 100 artists participated this go ’round, including Barbara Streisand, Pink and Kanye West and the following:

Wyclef Jean, Carlos Santana, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg, Celine Dion, Keith Urban, Jeff Bridges, Vince Vaughn, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Natalie Cole, Akon, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Toni Braxton, Josh Groban, Zac Brown, Gladys Knight, Justin Bieber, Harry Connick Jr., LL Cool J, Robin Thicke, Rob Thomas, Jordin Sparks, Good Charlotte’s Madden brothers, Keri Hilson, Tyrese, Katharine McPhee, Sean Garrett, Melanie Fiona and all three Jonas Brothers.
